Care Setting
After you select 'inpatient' for the 'care setting,' you will see a drop down to select the relevant authorization category for the service you are requesting.
Patient Stay
The 'patient stay' section is also unique to inpatient authorizations and should be used to describe the current admission status of the patient.
'Currently admitted' should be used for patients admitted at the time of the request, regardless of whether it is a planned or unplanned admission.
'Discharged' should only be used when submitting an authorization for a patient that is already discharged.
'Not yet admitted' is for planned admissions coming up on a future date. Once the patient is admitted, you should upload the appropriate admission paperwork and supporting clinical documentation to the case (see below).
Editing authorizations for review
For any new requests or continuations of existing requests, you will need to upload supporting clinical documentation.
Authorization status
The authorization status will be available to view in the patient summary for both the parent authorization and any subsequent care episodes.
The parent authorization populates the authorization ID, while each care episode is assigned its own tracking ID.
The status displayed at the top of the request in the patient summary reflects the status of the most recently submitted request. If a continuation or new care episode has been requested, the request will show as pending even though some days have already been approved.
Expand the authorization request and scroll down for more information on each care episode's status, including submission date, submitter name, status, and more.
