How to Check the Status of an Authorization

Overview

You can check the status of an authorization through the Cohere portal using patient or authorization details, or via the Authorization Check page without logging in. If a request is approved but lacks an immediate authorization number, an email notification will be sent once a final determination is made. Additionally, users can save submissions as drafts and return later to complete and submit them.

Why don't I see an authorization number?

In some cases, you may see a request get approved but not show an authorization number right away. When a request has received a final determination (approved, partially approved, or denied) we will send the submitter an email notification with this information.

How do I check the status of an authorization?

There are two ways you can check the status of an authorization:

  1. You can use the Cohere portal to check the status of your authorization on the dashboard or on the patient summary by following the steps below.

    • Log in to your account at next.coherehealth.com.

    • Search for the specific authorization by using the search bar at the top of the dashboard and enter one of the following:

      • Patient name

      • Member ID

      • Tracking ID

      • Authorization ID

  2. Visit our Authorization check page to search for an authorization by Cohere tracking # or member ID and date of birth (DOB).

    • This method is useful for individuals that need to check the status of an authorization, but don't have an account.

*Please note: Cohere authorizations will only be visible in Availity once a final determination has been rendered.

Authorization Drafts

  • If at any point you need to pause the progress of your submission, you can navigate to the bottom of the page and, when available, click the "Save & Exit" button.

  • Drafts are accessible to the user the submitted the auth on the main dashboard and the patient summary.

  • When you continue editing a draft, you can complete the details of your request and submit. You will then see it is no longer a draft and will either pend for review, or approve automatically.
